Northwest-area
composer, improviser, and multi-instrumentalist Matt Carlson has written chamber
music, electro-acoustic composition, and been an active member of Seattle's
free improvisation community as an analog synth player. With "Making Time"
he tackles new territory: the song album. Playing guitar, keyboards, drums,
toy instruments, and vocals, Carlson puts songs together in a way that uses
classical gestures of popular music and yet defies expectation at every turn.
Questioning the inherent assumptions that come along with the idea of the "singer-songwriter",
"Making Time" is an album that pushes boundries while having a surface
accessibility.
