Matt Carlson made this tour-only CD-R in a limited edition of 50 to be sold on the Parenthetical Girls West Coast tour. Now that they're basically sold out (I think there's 3 left), it is being made available for those who consider themselves "in the market" for online downloads.
Judge Judy is an extended instrumental piece filled with multiple layers of repeating guitar and keyboard patterns of differing lengths. One could think of it as applying techniques of rhythmic minimalism to the palette of pop music, or one could think of it as a bunch of loops going over and over again forever (although no actual looping was used).
Knee Play 1 is a cover of the opening piece from Philip Glass's first opera Einstein on the Beach, done with acoustic guitar, vocals, and special guest Willie Blair on bass. It is a highly questionable appropriation of concert music and honestly we're all scared shitless of getting sued by representatives of Mr. Glass.
The two long tracks complement each other quite nicely and make for an EP that is hypnotic, pleasant-sounding and may or may not bridge conceptual gaps (or create new ones?).
